Undergarments have been and continue to be developed strictly within gendered categories. Yes, cisgender* men and women do exist and will always have clothes designed for, however there is a world beyond the binary, there is a whole spectrum of life. There are far too many marginalized such as trans and non-binary folx that do not fit( both physically and culturally) within cisgender garments, thus further perpetuating body dysphoria. Garments should focus on function rather than appealing to the traditional preferences of a gendered market. A bra should be designed for those with or without breasts, and serve physically and mentally. Not every woman has breasts, breasts are not a defining feature of being a woman. Anatomy does not equate to gender. Men’s and women’s undergarment bottoms are designed radically different but sorely exclude those that do not fit in either department. There is a world beyond womenswear and menswear.
